Bear Grylls surprises dedicated 13-year-old with once-in-a-lifetime Land Rover adventure
Survival expert organises special event to honour autistic boy’s brave spirit and devotion to terminally ill sister
Survival expert Bear Grylls organised a special surprise for a heroic 13-year-old who has endured a series of hardships despite his young age.
Autism sufferer Blake Harris is dedicated to his sister Lily-Mai, who has terminal cancer. The 13-year-old Scout has helped their mum Liz Bishop look after her, which is why Grylls, who is Chief Scout, said he wanted to honour and celebrate the youngster’s commitment to his family.
Grylls arrived in a bespoke camouflaged Land Rover Discovery with Blake’s name emblazoned on the side. The adventurer then took him off-roading to a secret wood location, showing him how to set up a shelter, light a fire and scavenge for maggots to make an afternoon snack – as well as how to get to grips with a catapult.
“It has been such a privilege to spend this time with Blake. He is a credit to his family and the Scouts. Keep going buddy!”
Blake said: “I couldn’t believe that Bear was there in a Land Rover designed just for me. To have some time with the Chief Scout and learn lessons from how Bear has dealt with difficulties in his life is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“I will never forget the experience and it will motivate me for the future.”
