Four people have ‘unbelievable’ escape as fence skewers car
West Yorkshire Police describe driver and three passengers as the ‘luckiest’ after all of them escape fence smash without life-threatening injuries
Four people have been described as the “luckiest” following a crash that saw a wooden fence skewer a car.
Photos shared by West Yorkshire Police’s road policing unit show a Volkswagen Golf impaled on several sections of a wooden fence – with one appearing to stretch as far back as the rear seats of the vehicle, having travelled directly between the front seats.
Police say the incident happened just after midnight last night in the Stourton area of Leeds, at a roundabout on the A61. The driver – a 22-year-old male – remains in hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The caption accompanying the photos said: “Four of the luckiest people our officers have ever seen following an RTC [road traffic collision]. Unbelievable how this did not result in multiple fatalities. Thankfully luck was on everybody’s side this evening.”
The passengers – two women aged 19 and 20 along with a 20-year-old man – were treated for minor injuries.
Appealing for witnesses, West Yorkshire Police said that inquiries were continuing. There have been no arrests.
