Jaguar has given its F-Pace SUV the SVR treatment in the form of a high-power V8 engine, sporty styling and a tuned chassis.

The British firm’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division has given the SUV a performance increase of 44 per cent, with the 5.0-litre supercharged petrol engine making 542bhp and 680Nm of torque. This means it can complete the 0-60mph dash in just 4.1 seconds – impressive for a car that weighs nearly 2.5 tonnes.

The exterior has been given a makeover, too, with larger air intakes at the front, bonnet vents and wheel arch extensions, which give the car better cooling and a more muscular appearance.

The V8’s soundtrack is enhanced by an active exhaust system, which features a quad-exit tailpipe and represents a 6.6kg weight saving over the standard unit.

Mike Cross, chief engineer of vehicle integrity at Jaguar Land Rover, said: “The F-Pace SVR delivers the handling and agility to match its performance.

The Jaguar F-Pace SVR will cost from £74,835 and will be available to order this summer, which pits it directly against Alfa Romeo’s Stelvio Quadrifoglio. The Italian car manufacturer announced this week that its go-faster SUV will start at £69,500, boasting 503bhp from its 2.9-litre V6 engine.
