The new official F1 Mercedes-AMG GT R safety car will be the most powerful pace vehicle ever made.
Due to make its official debut at the Melbourne Grand Prix qualifying stages on Saturday, it’s the latest pace car to be supplied by Mercedes-AMG in a long line of them that started in 1996.
Powered by a turbocharged 4.0-litre V8, the GT R produces 577bhp, allowing it to hit 60mph in 3.4 seconds before reaching a top speed of 199mph.
The engine sends power to the road via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the car features widened wings to cover the wider, track-ready suspension. A variety of different driving modes helps the GT R cope in all manner of conditions, too.
