Toyota is launching a camper conversion for its Proace van, featuring a kitchen, pop-up roof, and fold-out bed.

Called Lerina, it’s based on the medium-wheelbase version of the firm’s commercial vehicle. It’s nearly five metres long and two metres high, which means it should fit beneath most height barriers and into an average parking bay.

Inside, there’s a side kitchen and a rear bench that folds out into a double bed, while the seats can be slid forward to create more space for luggage when travelling or to maximise living space. The kitchen is complete with a sink, gas hob and fridge.

White fitted furniture gives the interior a modern look, and offers plenty of storage space, including a large wardrobe. Meanwhile, power comes from an electric hook-up and a 100-watt solar panel, while a timed heater ensures the cabin doesn’t get chilly when camping in winter.

There’s also a pop-up roof, courtesy of German firm SCA, which is home to a double bed.

There are two 2.0-litre diesel engines available for the Lerina. The first is a 120bhp unit with a six-speed manual, and the other has 180bhp and is mated to an automatic transmission.

For the driver, features include satellite navigation, cruise control, air conditioning and DAB radio.

David Elliott, director of Wellhouse Leisure’s parent company Lunar Campers, said: “The Lerina’s compact size, high specification and low price are proving extremely attractive, and we are delighted that we’ve got a growing network of Toyota agents so quickly.”

A Toyota GB spokesman said: “Wellhouse Leisure was our choice for an official conversion specialist to turn our award-winning Proace into a comfortable and highly practical campervan.

“Its design maximises the potential of the interior space and gives Proace and our growing range of light commercial vehicles yet another dimension of usefulness and customer appeal.”

The Lerina is available from £42,000 at nine Toyota dealerships across England, Scotland and Wales.
