Brindley Stourbridge will be providing visitors with free sprays of LifePaint, a paint that reflects light and glows brightly in the dark.

The transparent paint is invisible in daylight but in darkness reflects light brightly, illuminating the cyclist and making them clearly visible to drivers.

It can be applied to almost any material, including clothes, shoes and helmets. The aim is to make the invisible visible.

Brindley Stourbridge is offering free sprays of LifePaint during its open weekend on October 24 and 25.

The Volvo dealership is also encouraging parents to visit during half-term to get their children's bags and coats sprayed.

The water-based paint lasts up to a fortnight and washes off without damaging the treated material.

The product was first distributed through six London bike shops and sold out within 24 hours.

Volvo is now trialling the spray as part of a wider bid by the manufacturer to improve road safety.

The company has already developed technology that allows cars to detect pedestrians and cyclists, as well as creating headlights that bend around corners.

More than 19,000 cyclists are injured on UK roads each year

James Elkes, managing director of Brindley Stourbridge said: "Every year more than 19,000 cyclists are injured on the UK's roads.

"At Volvo, we believe that the best way to survive a crash is not to crash at all, and are committed to making the roads a safer place by reducing the number of accidents.

"By making cyclists increasingly visible as well as increasing the safety capabilities of our cars, we are doing our utmost to protect everyone on the road.

"We look forward to welcoming customers who would like to try out Volvo Cars LifePaint with a free spray on our forecourt and we also will have a limited supply for those who wish to make purchases to use throughout the winter to help them stay safe in the dark."
