West Midland classic car drivers will be out in force this weekend

A full entry list of 160 cars has been confirmed for the ever-popular MAC Classic, a 100mile run through the countryside for vintage, classic and modern sports cars, which will culminate with a run up the iconic Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb course on Sunday.

The event is being organised by the Sports & Classics Section of the Midland Automobile Club and will have four starting points at Bridgnorth, Cirencester, Solihull and from Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb itself, near Worcester.Crews and cars will follow a simple 'tulip route' road book taking in some of the most beautiful countryside in England and Wales, converging at Shelsley Walsh, where a classic car extravaganza will be in full swing. From lunchtime, the historic motor sport venue will host brass bands, a pig roast and guided tours of the restored Water Mill on site that will be in full working action.Joint event organiser Tony Harrison said: "This is the fourth running of the MAC Classic and this year's event promises to be the best yet, there will be a real carnival atmosphere throughout the courtyard and paddock areas and entrants will each have souvenir pictures of their cars taken as they carefully drive the hill."We have several interesting and rare cars from over the years taking part including a 1938 Fraser Nash, a 1948 Lanchester, a 1961 AC Greyhound, a 1971 Sunbeam Stilleto, 1976 Chevrolet Corvette and a 2008 Lotus Esprit Turbo."Spectators and visitors will be made most welcome and there will be something for all the family to see, with a wide variety of old and new cars both taking part and on display, together with many colourful characters who own them.One classic machine taking part will be the 1964 Jaguar Mk 2 of Bridgnorth driver Simon Hall who will be setting off from the Halfpenny Green Vineyard starting point.MAC club member Simon commented: "These events are fantastic fun and we get to use these classic cars for the purpose they are intended for, which is pure driving pleasure.Simon added: "Besides being a wonderfully social occasion, the navigation part is a great challenge and this event also gives classic car enthusiasts the rare opportunity to actually drive up the famous hill after enjoying a leisurely and scenic drive through the countryside."More details can be found on the MAC website at
