Jaguar's single-seater F-type will make debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed
A stunning, 190-mph version of Jaguar's acclaimed F-type sports car will make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed tomorrow.
The Birmingham-built Project 7 is a one-off design, single-seater, all-aluminium bodied roadster.
Described by Jaguar director of design, Ian Callum, as a car to be driven fast and enjoyed, it features a Jaguar D-type-inspired fairing, bespoke carbon-fibre aerodynamic components, and a unique interior.
The car, a one-off design from the Midlands-based car maker, will be in action over the three days of the Festival, together with debuts for the Jaguar XFR-S, XJR and XKR-S GT at the weekend event.
The Birmingham-built Project 7 refers to the amount of the times Jaguar has won the Le Mans 24-hour race between 1951-1990 – a record for a British manufacturer – and its blue paintwork is reminiscent of the victorious Jaguar D-types of the mid-1950s.
The car is powered by a five-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine that will allow it to reach 60mph in 4.1 seconds with a top speed of 186mph.
Other key design points include a new front splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser; lowered windscreen and restyled front bumper.
The interior features a composite single-seat with racing harness, a helmet holder and custom trim. "Project 7 is a single-seater sports car based on the F-type, with the kind of racing- inspired form that designers dream about. It has one purpose: to be driven fast and enjoyed. Jaguar sports cars are known for exceptional performance and clean design," said Mr Callum.
The F-type, built in Jaguar's Castle Bromwich factory in Birmingham, was winner of the World Car Design of the Year 2013 award.
Jaguar's parent company JLR also has an assembly plant in Solihull and is currently building a new engine plant in Wolverhampton.
