As petrol prices rocket, one Black Country business is offering drivers the chance to grab some free fuel in a swap for unwanted clothes.

In exchange for a black bin liner full of clothes or shoes, people can claim one litre of petrol free at the Withymoor Petrol Station in Withymoor Road, Netherton, every weekend.

The garage is selling unleaded at £1.34 a litre and diesel at £1.41.

Lee Featonby, from Rugeley Rags and Wipers who are behind the campaign, said it was a means of encouraging people to recycle.

"Petrol prices just keep going up, and it's starting to seriously affect people's lives. Petrol stations are closing down, people are losing their jobs, so we thought it would be good to give them some free fuel," he said.

"It's getting something back from donating clothes which aren't worn any more rather than just throwing them away."

Mr Featonby, aged 33, from Cradley Heath, said depending on its success, the offer would run indefinitely.

All donated clothes will be shipped to a distribution firm which will recycle the old clothing by sending it to overseas charities or to other recycling organisations.
