Wolverhampton mosques extend invite to open day events
People are being invited to attend Wolverhampton mosques as part of an open day event to tackle misconceptions about Islam.
The Visit My Mosque is a national initiative, run by The Muslim Council of Britain, to encourage more people to go to their local mosque to find out about what goes on there.
Wolverhampton's Central Mosque, based on Waterloo Road and the Madina Masjid and Islamic Centre, based on Newhampton Road East in the city are both involved in the project, which will see them open their doors on Sunday.
The family event will give visitors the opportunity to watch live prayers, have guided toursaround the religious sites and ask questions about Islam. There will be a display including Islamic posters and artefacts will also be on display.
The event at Wolverhampton Central Mosque takes place from 2-6pm whilst the event at Madine Masjid and Islamic Centre is running from 12-5pm.
Yusuf Shafi, who is a volunteer at the Wolverhampton Central Mosque said: "I would say to people that are considering attending, we are your friends, your neighbours.
"We are your fellow Wolverhampton citizens and we want to get to know you and you us.
"The event will give people the chance to come inside and see what the Mosque and Islam is all about."
"I'm sure many people have passed the buildings and wondered what goes on, so our open day will be the opportunity for people to find out."
Admission to the event is free and those of all faiths and those of non-faith are invited to attend.
Refreshments will be available throughout.
