MP hits out over state of two 'eyesore' former pubs in Walsall
An MP has hit out at efforts to clean up the 'eyesore' sites of two former pubs.
Owners of the Leathern Bottle pub, in Mossley, and the Eagle Pub, on the same estate, were served with a section 215 notice earlier this year.
The Walsall Council notice gave them a deadline of August 3 to clear up.
However, a recent inspection by planning officers revealed that although work had started, neither clean-up was complete.
David Winnick, MP for Walsall North, has been campaigning for action.
He has called the two pub sites an 'eyesore' in the past, while vandals have targeted them on a number of occasions.
Council officers have previously said that both could be rat infested.
Mr Winnick said: "I do find it surprising and disappointing that the owners or agents involved have acted in such a derisory way to the section 215 notice.
"The action taken by the local authority was after a very lengthy time after the pubs were demolished.
"The fact that they left the sites in such deplorable condition shows the contempt they have towards the residents of the estate."
