Florence still loving the piano at 102
She may be 102, but Florence Bradnock won't let age stop her from playing the toe-tapping music she loves.
Talented pianist Florence Bradnock marked her milestone birthday at Highcroft Hall Residential Care Home in Old Fallings Lane, Wolverhampton.
Born in 1914 in George Street, Ettingshall, Florence is the last surviving of six siblings born to parents Alice and George.
Her father was a blacksmith and during the war years he shod the horses used in battle on the frontline in Belgium.
Florence has been playing the piano since the age of 11 when her sister bought her a piano, she had lessons every week when she started.
Her favourite genre to play on the piano is country music.
Though she admits she has never played for anyone famous, she has always played for pleasure and provided entertainment at a number of family birthday parties and weddings over the years.
When asked her secret to reaching such an incredible age the birthday girl said: "Good living, no alcohol, a caring family and good family values."
Before she retired, Florence worked at the Ever Ready Factory in Park Lane, where she met her husband-to-be Francis.
The couple married in 1940 and Florence gave up work to be a full time mother to children Eileen and Christine, who both still live in the city.
Eileen, who is in her seventies, said: "Mum is such a kind and likeable person and always takes such an interest in her family. She and dad were devoted to each other and were never apart – they were inseparable."
Florence was an exceptionally talented pianist and could play by ear, without reading any music.
Eileen added: "She played well into her 90s. She was always playing at parties and at Christmas."
In later life Florence and Francis lived in Fallings Park before moving to Pendeford.
After almost 75 years of marriage Francis, who was 96 years old, sadly passed away following a fall.
Shortly after his death Florence moved into Sanctuary Care's Highcroft Hall Residential Care Home.
