The development, which is to transform the Wolverhampton city centre campus entrance and courtyard, is hoped to bring more students and staff together in a special 'social hub'.

Once complete, the hub will see green open spaces and tree-lined footpaths trace the entrance to the university campus, on Wulfruna Street.

At the moment, construction work is still being carried out on the site, with builders working to create the three sections of green space surround by wide bricked footpaths either side.

The redevelopment also includes refurbishing the food court at the Millennium City building in Wulfruna Street. The news follows a recent announcement that a new Starbucks is to open in the city centre campus as part of the courtyard re-development.

The new store will form part of the new 'social hub' and provide students and safe with additional food and drink facilities.

Jennifer Wood, estates and facilities manager at the University of Wolverhampton, said: "We're really excited to see how work is progressing on our £4 million redevelopment at the city centre campus and improvements have been very well received by students and staff. Facilities at the Millennium City Building have been extended and improved, with the opening of our new Starbucks store and new food and refreshments outlets offering a range of catering facilities.

"Our focus through this redevelopment has been to expand and improve on the existing social and catering facilities available to students, staff and visitors. The courtyard area is now really taking shape and is currently being landscaped to complete the transformation to make it a more attractive environment for everyone who uses the campus."

Work on the courtyard should be complete by the end of the month.

The redevelopment of the city centre campus is one of a number of multi-million pound schemes being carried out by the university as it spends £250m over five years. Money will be spent on a host of ongoing projects, including the £65m Springfield Brewery construction college.
