The three time Wimbledon champion will turn on the festive lights in Halesowen on November 19.

Ward councillor Stuart Henley said it was great to have a local sports hero who will mark the start of the town's celebrations.

Councillor Henley said: "It is brilliant news, we should be promoting all we can do with athletics especially the disability side.

"Jordanne has done excellent in her sporting career, she is a local person and hopefully can bring people in to the event.

"The Christmas lights switch on is an important event, and it is great that it is still happening with the cut backs taking place."

There will also be a funfair and live entertainment as well as a Santa's sleigh organised by the Rotary Club.

It will cap a fantastic year for the star, who also competed at the Rio Paralympics as well as being awarded her MBE.

Last week she was also named a Freeman of Dudley borough.
