The heartfelt words of Diane Weston after support has flooded in for her terminally-ill father Roy who was mugged for his pension.

A crowdfunding page set up in the wake of the cowardly attack has hit £470, as generous Express & Star readers rally around in support of the 78-year-old.

Police investigating the robbery are looking at possible CCTV footage after a man and woman pounced on Roy outside Pepe's hairdressers in Brierley Hill High Street on September 12.

The crowdfunding page was set up by Dave Webb after reading 'poor Roy's plight.' Roy was not injured but left badly shaken.

His daughter Diane, 49, said: "We are all astounded with the support. We can't believe people have been so kind.

"I would like to tank everyone for all the kind wishes, it has really helped my parents.

"My dad feels a lot better now."

Roy was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer last year and the disease has spread to his bones.

Mr Webb, 58, who lives in Kent, decided to set up a fundraising page after it was suggested by several Express & Star readers.

He plans to travel to Dudley and present the money to Roy and his family when the fundraising page finishes.

He said: "When I read of poor Roy's plight online, one reader mentioned that there should a justgiving page, so I did just that and set one up.

"My initial thoughts were those of anger when I first heard of Roy's ordeal. It annoys me that people could think to rob a pensioner, let alone one who was terminally ill.

"Like Roy I am also a Cancer sufferer. The fundraising page runs for another 28 days, so when the money is transferred into my account, I'll make sure every penny is given to Roy & his lovely wife."

Roy was robbed of his and his wife's weekly pension money in broad daylight after picking it up from a post office.

West Midlands Police spokesman Gina Lycett said: "The officer in charge of the case thinks there is possible CCTV footage (from the mugging) but we still need to check it."

Roy, a life long Wolves fan, will be going to Sir Jack's restaurant at the Molineux this weekend for Diane's 50th birthday.

She said: "I will be going there with my Mum and Dad (Maureen and Roy), my partner, son and in laws.

"The restaurant said they would make the meal as special as they could. My dad used to go to to the Wolves matches years ago, he is a big fan of Bully."

A Wolves club spokesman said: "Everyone at Wolves was saddened to hear of what happened to one of the club's long-serving supporters, Mr Weston.

"Hopefully he has managed to recover from the ordeal, and it is heartening to see so many people coming forward to help him and his wife.

"We are aware that the family are here at Molineux on Sunday for a family celebration, and the Wolves' staff will ensure they are fully looked after, and hopefully have a little surprise waiting for Roy."
