Parliamentary boundary changes: Pat McFadden hits out over plans
A Black Country MP has criticised newly proposed boundary changes for using 'out of date' data to determine new constituencies.
Pat McFadden says the process, which is based on December's electoral register, fails to take into consideration the number of people who joined the register before the EU referendum.
Around two million extra voters are said to have joined the electoral register in the months leading up to the June 23 poll.
Wolverhampton South East MP Mr McFadden, whose constituency is set to expand and become Wolverhampton South and Coseley, said: "One of the big weaknesses of this process is that it doesn't take into account all the people who registered to vote in the EU referendum.
"It is based on an electoral roll which is now out of date."
Labour supporters have said the boundary changes, which will see the number of MPs fall from 650 to 600, have been instigated to favour the Conservative party.
Some councillors have also criticised the proposals. Wolverhampton Councillor Daniel Warren described the decision to put his Bushbury North ward in a separate constituency to Bushbury South as 'barmy'.
Bushbury North is set to be incorporated into Wolverhampton West, while Bushbury South and Low Hill will be part of Wednesfield and Willenhall.
"I'd like them to review the changes and do the common sense thing and keep Bushbury together," he said.
