Jane Sutton, from Burntwood, whose son's legacy has raised more than £5 million for the Teenage Cancer Trust, opened the new fast food chain restaurant in the town with the franchisee Doug Wright.

Mrs Sutton was invited to open the restaurant as it featured a special plaque dedicated to Stephen and his fundraising exploits.

She said: "Stephen always enjoyed having a Big Mac meal and he would be thrilled about the plaque to commemorate the hard work he put into his fundraising.

"We have known Doug for a number of years since he arranged for Stephen to go to the football back in 2013. He really enjoyed that afternoon.

"I think it's great news for Doug that he has got the chance to open a McDonald's in Burntwood and it's lovely to have a plaque within the restaurant in memory of Stephen."

In January 2013, after learning that his cancer was incurable, Stephen came to terms with the fact his long term goals of becoming a doctor were realistically not viable anymore, so he set up the Facebook page Stephen's Story - a bucket list of 46 things he wanted to do with the time he has left.

What started as a page of casual updates transformed as people became captivated by his enthusiasm and positivity, helping to achieve many of his goals and raise a staggering amount of a money for charity.

Speaking on Stephen, Mrs Sutton and the new restaurant, Mr Wright said: "I am delighted that Jane Sutton agreed to open the restaurant. Stephen was such an inspirational character and is part of the fabric here in Burntwood.

"His attitude and drive really impressed me and you could not help but be swept along by his enthusiasm. I think we can all learn something from his approach to life and determination.

"I'm thrilled to be opening a new restaurant in Burntwood and there has been a lot of excitement from my team.

"Technology has a huge role to play in all walks of life, including our customers' eating out experience, so the new technology we're introducing recognises the way people live their lives today.

"The addition of table service will enable our customers to order at the self-order kiosk, sit down in a designated zone and have their meals delivered direct to their tables."
