Meeting on 200 homes plan for Essington

A public meeting is set to be held over plans to build more than 200 new homes on green belt land in South Staffordshire.

A planning application has been submitted to build 210 homes a new shop and parking to serve St John's School and allotments at Hobnock Road.

The site is next to Swan Park – part of Essington parish council's preserved green belt land.

Essington Parish councillor David Clifft confirmed a public meeting would now be planned to update residents on the application.

He said: "This is yet another attack on Essington's green belt.

"We will be calling a public meeting in the next few weeks to inform residents."

The application has been made by Jack Moody, who owns and operates the Hollybush garden centre and aquaria, in Warstone Road, Shareshill, Wolverhampton.

It is being dealt with by Wolverhampton-based property management company, First City Ltd who is also in charge of the sale of the 56 acre Windmill Quarry, in Bognop Road, Essington.
