Tettenhall calls for independence: Plans for area's own council take step forward
Plans that could see Tettenhall have its own elected council for the first time in more than 50 years have been formally submitted to Wolverhampton council.
The village's local neighbourhood forum has requested a community governance review - the first stage of the creation of a new parish council.
The proposed authority covers the two Tettenhall wards, Regis and Wightwick, and would mean more powers for the village's District Community Council (TDCC) over planning and conservation issues.
Wolverhampton council now has one year to respond to the application.
Cyril Randles, chair of TDCC, said: "It is the desire and intention of the TDCC to work in close cooperation and partnership with Wolverhampton council throughout the process of the governance review and, if a parish council is established, to continue to work in harmony with the authority.
"We wish to put in place a permanent organisation which can bring benefits to the residents of Tettenhall in regard to those matters that are best resolved and determined at the most local level of local government."
