Kai to the rescue as water safety ring sparks alert
Alerted by a safety ring out on the water, fire service dog Kai's rescue training kicked into action.
The Alsation darted into the water to retrieve the ring, which is thought to have been removed from its stand and thrown into the water.
His attention is solely on the item in the water as soon as he spots it floating on the surface.
Believing there could be a person in difficulty, the pooch wastes no time in wading into the water and making his way over to the apparent danger zone.
Although it turns out there is nobody out there, Kai does what he has been trained to do and brings back the ring safe and sound.
He is then pictured at the water's edge guarding the rescued ring and looking pretty pleased with his efforts.
Kai is part of the West Midlands Fire Service dogs team. He is a fire investigation dog meaning he searches fire scenes for any potential cause. For example, if arson is suspected, he will hunt for a potential accelerant.
West Mids Fire Dogs posted a warning on its Twitter account for people not to remove safety rings on the edge of pools and lakes.
They tweeted: "Kai's good deed for the day! Spotted, retrieved, returned! This is life-saving equipment, don't mess with it!"
