Illegal immigrant caught with van full of booze
An illegal immigrant was stopped in his tracks as he was caught driving an overweight van packed with alcohol.
Traffic officers got more than they bargained for during a routine operation when it emerged the driver was in the UK illegally.
His van was not only uninsured but also breached safe weight limits and was a ton heavier than allowed.
The Central Motorway Policing Group tweeted under a picture of the van: "Probably not the people this driver wanted to meet while driving an uninsured van full of alcohol.
"Van containing alcohol a ton overweight and driver is an illegal limit," the tweet continued.
Another van would found to be 25 per cent overweight during the operation at Strensham Services on the M5 and was forced to offload while officers also came across a van that had more than 450,000 miles on the clock.
A car was also seized for having no insurance.
The operation was held at the service station on Monday. A weighbridge was laid out and vehicles pulled over and tested at random.
As well as making sure vehicles were under the legal weight limit, other checks such as licence as insurance were also done.
Various safety checks were carried out and one van taken off the road as its rear axle was insecure.
But it was the van full of alcohol that was the biggest result for the traffic cops. The door of the yellow van was drawn back to reveal boxes of booze piled up on top of each other. Not only was the van much heavier than allowed, making it a danger to other motorists, the driver shouldn't have been in the country and unsurprisingly had no insurance.
There was a barely believable moment during the operation when carrying out a random inspection of a van an officer noticed it had a staggering 456,935 miles on the clock - meaning it has driven further than the moon during its life
