This is how a multi-million pound Aldi supermarket will transform former industrial land in Great Barr and create 40 new jobs.

Aldi has unveiled plans for a second branch on Birmingham Road - directly opposite Asda Queslett.

A CGI image has been released showing a single-storey modern store with a floor area of around 12,270 sq ft.

The proposals include a car park as well as landscaping such as the planting of new trees and shrubs.

A public consultation has been taking place with residents and councillors in the area.

An Aldi spokesman said: "The response we've had so far has been very positive, with almost 70 per cent of residents supporting our proposal.

"More specifically, people have commented that a new store in this part of Great Barr would be convenient for local residents who would no longer have to travel out of the area to complete their grocery shopping.

"Over the coming weeks, we will take a look at the feedback we've received as we finalise our plans."

Shoppers will arrive at the supermarket via a new access route off Old Horns Crescent.

A public exhibition of the plans took place at Pheasey Park Farm Community Centre yesterday (THURS) for residents and councillors to view the proposals.

In November Aldi opened a new store in Oldbury opposite the Wolverhampton Road Asda.

Hundreds of eager shoppers headed to its opening – with the influx of visitors causing chaos on the roads.
