West Midlands Police launched a hate crime investigation last month after Gazza allegedly made a racist joke during a performance on November 30.

The complaint is believed to be about a 'joke' the former England star made about a black security guard during the show.

Spotting the guard in a darkened corner of the stage, he said he could not tell if he is smiling or not. It was met with an audible gasp by the audience, although it is not clear whether the security guard heard the remark at the time.

Hannah Fitzgerald at West Midlands Police said: "Information has been passed on to the Crown Prosecution Service who will decide whether there are grounds whether to take the matter further."
