More than 1,000 toys worth thousands of pounds were sent in for the Express & Star's Christmas Toy Appeal.

And despite hundreds of children benefitting from the prizes - there are dozens of toys still left to hand out.

So we are calling on readers to nominate good causes to take the remaining toys.

From local football clubs to toy retailers big and small, unions, local businesses and our kind readers, we have been more than overwhelmed with toy donations for our appeal, launched last month.

A long list of big names and stars of stage and TV and sport also backed the scheme, including the likes of Sir Lenny Henry, the Chuckle Brothers, Wolves players past and also present and, Walsall FC players and Baggies boss Tony Pulis.

Toys were distributed to families affected by the job losses at Caparo, Acorns Hospice and Russells Hall, New Cross, Walsall Manor and Sandwell Hospitals.

Deputy editor Diane Davies said: "When we launched the toy appeal we were worried we would have enough toys to provide for all of the children in our chosen good causes. But we were able to provide all the toys the causes asked for – and more.

"And, thanks to the generosity of our readers and the local communities, we have toys left over.

"Which is why we are able to invite nominations for other good causes that could benefit from the appeal. They could be children's charities, nursery and playgroups, or any other worthy cause that would be able to use the new toys to benefit youngsters in our communities.

"We will help as many worthy causes as we can with the toys we have left.

"Thanks again to everyone who has supported this appeal which continues to benefit children in our communities."
