M6 to M5 link road near Wednesbury to shut for six nights
A link road connecting the M5 to the M6 will be closed for six nights from next week.
The stretch heading south, near Wednesbury - one of the busiest parts of the West Midlands motorway network - will close at 9pm each night between January 5 and January 10.
Highways England will be working on the link road and the closure of the slip road could cause headaches for many drivers.
The closures will mean drivers on the southbound carriageway wanting to join the M5 will instead have to travel to junction seven, leave the motorway and then get back on the northbound side so they can join the M5 using the eastbound slip road at junction eight.
Workers will be installing traffic loop sensors on the road, which are used to monitor the speed and flow of traffic.
The overnight closures come as commuters recover from months of roadworks misery on the M6.
Repair work on the link road off the M6 onto the M5 in West Bromwich, which was delayed twice and initially due to finish in June, led to lengthy tailbacks on a regular basis.
