A Christmas to remember as couple who tried to have children for 10 years welcome baby Amber
After years of failed attempts to have a baby, a couple have been given a Christmas to remember with their first baby.
Laura and Chris Washington had tried for nearly 10 years, including two painful miscarriages when they turned to using a frozen embryo transfer.
But their dreams to have a child came true after using a revolutionary fertility treatment at Tamworth-based Midland Fertility.
The couple were given access to a new embryo implantation substance called EmbryoGlue - and it worked, with the pair welcoming their first child, called Amber in the summer.
Now the family can look forward to a Christmas together.
Laura, aged 31, said: "We found out that we were having a little girl and I remember being so grateful that our dreams were finally coming true.
"We can't believe Amber is a milestone baby.
"She is extra special to us and we are spending our first Christmas as the parents we always dreamed we would be."
The couple had suffered a traumatic time prior to Amber's birth, including the two miscarriages and numerous experimentation's with different treatments.
Laura, who had been diagnosed with double Fallopian tube blockages, had undergone testing with the NHS before turning to Midland Fertility.
However, following the couple's first cycle of IVF treatment, where a single sperm is injected into an egg to help with fertilisation, the embryo transfer was unable to go ahead.
After a short break, the couple had a frozen embryo transfer which resulted in a positive pregnancy test.
Sadly, Laura lost the pregnancy early on, but without delay, the couple underwent another frozen embryo transfer cycle and again, a positive pregnancy test followed.
Laura said: "We treated this result with caution and my first reaction was not of delight but worry that I would lose it again."
Unfortunately, their worst fears were realised when Laura miscarried for a second time.
Husband Chris, also aged 31, said: "I was gutted for us both and I really needed to be around to support Laura and what she was going through."
Last year, the couple decided to give it one last try and turned to EmbryoGlue to increase the chances of a successful implantation.
Laura said: "We found out that we were having a little girl and I remember being so grateful that, after five years of treatment, our dreams were finally coming true."
