Dramatic video captures the moment the brazen robbers took just 15 seconds to break into Laxmi Jewellers in Pleck before fleeing the scene in a black Ford Focus - believed to be stolen.

The audacious daytime attack took place as several vehicles, including a bus, drove past less then 20ft away on Wednesbury Road shortly after 5pm on Tuesday.

It is not the first time the family-run jewellers has been targeted after thieves rammed their way into the shop in 2010 stealing £9,000 worth of items.

Manager Amrit Verma, aged 28, said: "It makes me very angry more so for my dad who has been really shaken up by it.

"He is 62 and still comes in and works hard.

"This is the last thing he deserves.

The aftermath of the raid

"My family has run this business for years. It was my grandad's now me and my brother run it.

"This has happened several times now and to be honest I am getting sick of it."

Mr Verma said the thieves knew what they were doing and took up to seven large gold Asian wedding sets of jewellery, by lifting the pieces off their mantles.

The shop has been closed ever since the raid and Mr Verma is now investing in upgrades to the security of the property.

He added: "At the moment we are still estimating the value of what was stolen. We think they took up to £35,000 of sets.

"The loss of gold is one thing but I am also losing three or four days worth of earnings. Obviously I can't open up the front with boarded up windows.

"On top of the repairs to the shop itself we are increasing our own security in terms of anti-bandit glass and new front doors.

"That will at least be another £30,000."

Smashed glass after the raid

Less than a minute after the men struck, more than a dozen neighbouring traders and stunned onlookers descended on the scene where they stood aghast at the wreckage to the shop.

Mr Verma thanked those who came to his aid straight after the incident and those who have offered their support since.

Resident of the area, Kumar Patel, witnessed the immediate aftermath of the raid.

He said: "The front of the shop was smashed to bits. It must have took some force to do that.

"It is just a real shame.

"I live locally and it is scary that they did this during the day with lots of cameras about.

"Wednesbury Road is so busy they must have been brave to commit such a big crime at that time.

"It is not the first time it has happened there."

West Midlands Police confirmed three people were involved in the incident.

A smashed window after the raid

The two men caught on CCTV were wearing blue baggy jeans, dark coloured jackets with the hoods up, black balaclavas and black shoes.

One of the men appeared to be wearing a white T-shirt under his coat.

The sledgehammer and axe used were both more than two foot long with black and orange coloured handles.

Police spokesman Peter Edney said: "Police were called to Laxmi Jewellers in Wednesbury Road, Pleck at 5.10pm on Tuesday December 8. Three men smashed a window of the jewellers and stole a large amount of jewellery before driving off from the scene.

"Officers have launched an investigation and need any witnesses to come forward."

In 2012 a gang of seven robbers were jailed for a combined 52 years, after wreaking havoc across the West Midlands committing at least 11 high value thefts, including a raid at Laxmi Jewellers two years earlier.

On that occasion they battered down the entrance of the Pleck shop and escaped with £9,000 worth of gold rings.
