Fly-tippers target charity collection area in Dudley
Thieves are targetting charity collection bins in Dudley and fly-tippers have also been dumping waste at the same site.
Sedgley Councillor Bill Etheridge has condemned the thefts from the clothes recycling bins in the car park of the Co-op supermarket in High Holborn, Dudley.
In the latest incident of fly-tipping, plastic tubs have been dumped. Clothes were also strewn across the ground but they have since been cleared away.
He said: "I have asked Dudley Council to clear the area as a matter of emergency.
"With the amount of clothing strewn all over the floor, one can only guess as to what might be hidden amongst it.
"Stealing from charities is as low as it gets. It's a despicable act, and in this case has brought about even more anguish for local residents through the fly-tipping.
"It seems to have happened in one go. I was made aware only made aware of it and it it seems that someone has riffled through the whole lot of the bins and everything is just scattered all over the place."
He added: "Amongst the recycling unit there are large tubs of empty cooking oil that have just been dumped there too - it is disgusting.
"These people must be desperate, inconsiderate or both to just leave this mess and steal from a charity bin too. How low can they go?
"This is definitely not the image we need for Sedgley neither.
"I have also asked British Heart Foundation to come and secure their collection facility too."
Several of the clothing collection skips, some of which belong to the British Heart Foundation, had their contents scattered across the ground.
Piles of clothes and some rubbish spread as far as the side of the Co-op building. Electrical items were also dumped there.
Bosses at Midcounties Co-operative said they were aware of the thefts and fly-tipping and they are working with Dudley Council to clean up the area.
The police have also been informed.
