More than 100 people pledged to back the campaign started in recent days to make improvements on the A34 Walsall Road, in Great Barr.

People want an end to illegal u-turns and other dangerous manoeuvres taking place at the Tower Hill junction near shops, a pub and restaurant.

It comes after Sarah Child, aged 26, was killed and her sister Claire serious injured after being struck by a car on the junction.

The driver, Amirul Islam, from Lozells, in Birmingham, was jailed for four years in 2013 after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

Claire suffered nerve damage in her right leg as a result of the impact and was unable to walk on her own for two weeks due to the severity of cuts to her legs.

Claire was unable to return to her sales job at a plumbing products supplier, where her sisters Sarah and Hannah also used to work.

Resident Richard Evans, of Carmodale Avenue, has set up a Facebook campaign which has received more than 100 likes.

He wants an end to drivers performing a u-turns on the junction.

There are also discussions over a speed camera or lowering of the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph.

The 31-year-old teaching assistant, said: "It is so dangerous and you hate to think what could happen.

"We don't want another tragic crash. I was clipped by another car's wing mirror just recently. It stems down to pure laziness from mindless drivers."

The father of two said discussions are already progressing with Birmingham City Council.

"We are looking to get some petitions into the local shops soon. There has already been a lot of support on Facebook."

Mr Evans says his campaign also has the backing of Sarah's family and ward councillor Jon Hunt.

A consultation is due to get under way over lowering the speed limit on the road through the Tower Hill area.
