Probe after man found dead in van in Wednesfield
An investigation has been launched after a man was found dead in a van in Wednesfield.
Officers were called on July 1 at around 1.30pm by a member of the public, concerned for the welfare of a man in a van on Meredith Road.
Police said there were no officers available to respond at the time and the next available crew were allocated to attend.
Officers arrived at 3.45pm, just as a police received a further call saying the man was still there and appeared to be unconscious. The 45-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Results of a post-mortem were inconclusive and toxicology reports are now awaited to establish how the man died.
Inspector Brian Carmichael from the force's Professional Standards Department said: "As is usual in such cases where there has been contact with the police prior to death, the matter was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission. It has since been referred back to West Midlands Police for investigation.
"Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends at this difficult time."
