Ryan Wood, aged 11, from Hixon, has been taking pictures for less than a year after discovering his talent during a family trip to Scotland last summer.

Among the pictures by Ryan, who lives in Vine Close, is a close-up view of a robin.

But he has also taken pictures of deer, squirrels and ducks.

He has now organised an auction of his best pictures to raise money for The Wildlife Trust.

His ability was first spotted by parents Rachel and Andrew when the family were on holiday and he photographed dolphins.

The budding snapper was then given a camera at Christmas and said: "I love animals and I love being outside."

He added: "I like to visit Cannock Chase and take pictures of deer and also visit the Wildlife Trust Centre."

The youngster is home schooled and proud mother Mrs Wood said his passion is a great way to learn about plenty of subjects including science and computer studies.

She said:" We are very proud of him.

"His love for animals has taken him into photography.

"He can name every bird and his knowledge lets him get quite close to them as he understands their habitat.

"He doesn't enhance his pictures, he likes to keep them raw."

The family are heading back to Scotland later this summer and the youngster said he is looking forward to taking more pictures.

He said: "I just love taking photographs, I'm teaching myself and learning as I go.

"It can be tricky taking pictures of animals, they often run or fly off.

"I have to be really quiet."

Ryan is a member of both Staffordshire Wildlife Trust's and The RSPB.

The auction will take place on August 9 at the Wolseley Centre.
