Despicable Me Minions toy sawn off Oldbury youngster's foot by firefighters
Firefighters came to the aid of a toddler in the Black Country after her foot became trapped in her favourite toy.
While dad Steve and his fiancée Claire were worried for their daughter, little Darcie Butler kept her calm, laughing with firefighters as they went to work.
The tot even continued to play with the Minions robot toy, from the Despicable Me films, as crews tried to free her - but bad news was to come for the two-year-old as firefighters were forced to cut the toy in half.
It had begun just like any other morning, with Darcie playing in the front room of the family home in Malvern Road, Oldbury, at 6.50am yesterday when she suddenly became stuck.
The troublesome toy had been in the family for a number of years, and was previously a favourite of six-year-old brother Owen.
Steve, who works in car sales, said: "She got the toy wedged on her foot and we couldn't get it out.
"We phoned 111 and they said take her to hospital but we thought we would phone Oldbury Fire Station."
While Steve, who is 38, admitted he and Claire were slightly anxious as the firemen went to work, to Darcie it was just heightening her fun.
"We were a bit worried but we knew they sort it out," Steve said. "She was happy. She loved the firemen and was chatting with them.
"It was Owen's toy before hers. She has always played with it but today she decided to put her foot in it."
Firefighters took around 20 minutes to free Darcie's foot.
With the Minion now out of her life, Steve was confident his daughter would soon find another favourite.
"She has got plenty of toys," he said.
Watch commander Adam Joyce, from Oldbury Fire Station, said: "The family made the sensible decision not to call 999 but rang us instead. We said we would pop out and see her.
"We had to use a saw to cut the robot off her foot. She was brilliant throughout and was laughing. I think she enjoyed being the centre of attention."
