Get away driver admits Black Country robbery spree
A man has admitted being the get away driver on three Black Country armed robberies.
Andrew Warley pleaded guilty to conspiring with others to commit robbery between July 13 and October 3 last year when he appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday.
The 41-year-old confessed to being involved in armed raids on the One Stop shop in Oxley Moor Road, Oxley on September 21, the Co-op store in Unity Walk, Tipton six days later and the Grosvenor Casino in Bentley Mill Way, Walsall on October 2.
Mr Dean Kershaw, representing Warley from Victoria Road, Bradmore said: "The guilty plea is on the basis that he was the getaway driver at three robberies."
The defendant from Victoria Road, Bradmore was remanded in custody to await sentence at a date to be fixed.
Around 100 customers were said to be at the Grosvenor Casino when masked raiders armed with knives struck and escaped with an unspecified amount of money after targeting the cash desk around 7pm on October 2. Nobody was seriously hurt.
Robbers carrying an axe made off with cigarettes and cash from the till at the One Stop shop in Oxley Moor Road.
A member of staff suffered a blow to the head during the robbery but was not badly hurt.
Six days later the Co-op store in Unity Walk, Tipton was robbed by raiders armed with an axe who jumped over the counter and ordered to staff to open the safe in a back office.
They escaped with cash and cigarettes.
