Cross breed leaves dog injured in street attack
An out-of-control cross breed attacked two small dogs in a Wolverhampton street, leaving one of them seriously injured, a court heard.
Teddy the alsatian/rottweiler cross escaped from owner Lisa Dean's home in Mill Street, Bilston, on April 21, Wolverhampton Magistrates Court was told.
After biting a shar pei dog on the hind leg, he sank his teeth into the back of a chihuahua, lifting it from the ground and shaking it around, said prosecutor Mark Cooper.
The court was told that the dog required 50 stitches to repair the wound.
Mr Cooper said a man who intervened in the attack received a minor finger injury.
Dean, aged 40, was said to be 'anxious and upset' over the incident.
"She was very concerned," said Frank Calleia, defending.
"When she was interviewed by the police she was very frank. She said it as it was. The police noted in their summary that she had showed remorse.
"She regrets that the dog behaved as it did and she regrets that the other animals suffered."
The court was told that following the incident Teddy had been seized by police and was currently being held in police kennels. A destruction order could be imposed at a later hearing.
Dean admitted being in charge of a dangerously out of control dog causing injury.
She was given unconditional bail and will be sentenced at the same court on June 23.
