Partner stabbed with bread knife as affair ends in bloodshed
A man stabbed his former partner with a bread knife as their tempestuous affair ended in bloodshed, a court heard.
Scott Deeley was jailed for 16 months for the 'sustained and repeated' attack.
The 24-year-old grabbed the weapon as a meeting with his ex to 'sort things out' turned ugly, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.
She was left with cuts to her hand and arm as well as bruising all over her body following 'something of a scuffle,' revealed Mr Delroy Henry, prosecuting.
The pair had been together 'on and off' for a year before the final bust up at Deeley's home in Narrow Lane, Halesowen on January 31.
The couple had parted as the relationship hit the rocks and Deeley had sent a series of unpleasant text messages to her before they agreed to meet in an attempt to resolve their differences.
After a drink together and they decided to return to his home so that she could collect her belongings from the address.
Soon afterwards she was pushed to the floor by Deeley and the next thing she remembered was waking up in the kitchen as paramedics treated her injuries, the court heard.
Police called to the scene recovered the bloodstained knife.
Mr Henry concluded: "This was the culmination of what was a very turbulent relationship."
Mr Andrew Molloy, representing Deeley, said: "He accepts what he did was unlawful. It was not intentional but he does accept it was reckless.
"Both had been drinking and the relationship is now well and truly over."
The defendant admitted assaulting his former partner causing her actual bodily harm and was jailed for 16 months by Recorder Leo Pyle.
Recorder Pyle told him: "What you did was sustained and repeated."
