Lee Ward was disqualified from owning any dog after he was convicted of failing to take proper care of a dog in his ownership in June 2013.

But Wolverhampton Magistrates Court heard that he was seen with a Rottweiler twice in the space of a few days in April this year.

On the first occasion he was busking in Railway Drive in the city centre, said prosecutor Mark Cooper.

"A few days later police went to see him and he was with the same dog," he added. "The defendant said he was looking after the dog for someone else."

Nazir Hussein, defending, said Ward did not realise he had broken the law.

He said: "He thought he could have possession of the dog for a short period of time. He says he was looking after it for a friend."

Ward, of Allen Road, Whitmore Reans, Wolverhampton, admitted beaching a disqualification imposed under the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

He was fined £50 and ordered to pay court costs of £150, costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20.
