Firefighters believe a fire at a derelict building near a school in Staffordshire was 'potentially' started deliberately.

Two crews from Cannock and one from Penkridge attended the blaze just off the Wolverhampton Road for more than an hour on Monday night.

The old stable block lies opposite Cheslyn Hay High School.

Station manager Bob Preston, said: "It is a derelict site with a few old buildings.

"We have been to this building before to tackle a fire but it was about three years ago.

"It is potentially a deliberate act.

"Because of the nature of the building and because it is structurally unsound it is unsafe to go inside so we are tackling it from outside.

"There is a lot of brickwork, rubble and rubbish as well as the fact there is no roof which means we won't be going inside.

"But it isn't going anywhere."

Staffordshire Police has been to the site to look into the cause of the fire.

It is not the first time fire crews have been called to the site.
