Thousands spent on Staffordshire leisure centre revamp
Almost £55,000 has been spent on upgrading a fitness suite at a leisure centre in Staffordshire.
South Staffordshire Council has ploughed the money into the facility at Cheslyn Hay Leisure Centre, in Saredon Road.
The upgrade has included a complete re-decoration, a new air ventilation system to keep the centre cool, new weights and matting and new fitness equipment.
The council said the new-look fitness suite, which was only recently unveiled to the public, was already proving a real hit with users.
As part of the upgrade, the fitness suite offers new equipment including, treadmills, upright cycles, recumbent cycles, X trainers, step machines, upper body ergometer, and state-of-the-art rowing machines .
The renewed facility offers 35 fitness stations which consist of 20 cardio-vascular machines and 15 fixed weights machines.
With £45,000 of the investment spent on the brand new equipment, it features touchscreen consoles, digital TV and radio, smartphone compatibility, and E-scape virtual workouts.
The weights machines and weights areas have been newly upholstered and a full service has been carried out on existing strength equipment.
Councillor Mary Bond, South Staffordshire Council's cabinet member for environmental services, said: "I am delighted that the work in upgrading Cheslyn Hay Leisure Centres fitness suite is now complete and that we are able to provide the local community with such a good quality facility.
"It is great to hear reports that the facility is already attracting new people.
"South Staffordshire Council has always prided itself on investing money back into its leisure centres to keep the standard of facilities high and increase access into physical activity for the general public.
"With this in mind, I am very much looking forward to the future investments planned to take place over the next few years with upgrades planned for South Staffordshire Council's other three leisure centres."
The leisure centre also offers a 25m swimming pool, exercise studio, indoor cycling studio, five-court sports hall, gym, and a 3G astro pitch.
It is connected to Cheslyn Hay Sport and Community High School and is located on the outskirts of Cannock.
Customers do not have to be members to use the leisure centres facilities, but packages are available.
