Residents on Compton Road have spoke of their shock.
Dean Shercliff, 38, said: "I'm devastated, I knew Louis for six years and he was always good to me. He lived here for about 12 years.
"He was a very funny character and he is going to be missed by everyone who knew him around here. It wouldn't surprise me if hundreds turned up for his funeral - he was that popular.
"He was the type of guy who you could always go to for advice. He would listen to you and tell you what to do."
An emotional Luke Watkins, 36, added: "I'm absolutely devastated - Louis was my carer and looked out for me, I knew him since I was seven.
"He was a very intelligent person and could play many musical instruments. He loved music and from the age of 14 or 15 would go to people and teach them how to play music.
"He had more music qualifications than his music teacher - that's how clever he was."
Other neighbours said five police cars turned up as well as ambulances.
Debbie Jones, 28, who lives near Compton Road, said: "It was a huge surprise because it is normally fairly quiet around here.
"It is quite scary to know that someone just a few yards away has been stabbed to death."
Terrance Keates, 44, who lives on Compton Road, added: "It is quite worrying to know that this is happening on your doorstep."
