Tariq Rana, 31, of Leicester Street, Whitmore Reans, denied killing mother-in-law Gulam Asia on July 27, 2013, when he appeared via video link from Belmarsh Prison for a brief hearing at the Old Bailey.

Rana was charged in the UK the year after Mrs Asia, 49, was shot several times outside her home in Lahore.

His sister Nargus Ahmed, 33, and brother-in-law Adeel Muhammad, 35, from Birmingham, also appeared in court charged with assisting an offender but did not enter pleas.

The couple are accused of providing Rana with transport and accommodation "with intent to impede arrest" between July 27 and July 31 2013.

Wearing a black polo neck shirt and grey jogging bottoms, Rana spoke only to confirm his name and enter his not guilty plea before Mr Justice Singh.

The senior judge remanded him in custody to await a three to four-week trial starting on June 22 at a venue to be fixed. A further hearing was scheduled for May 8. Ahmed and Muhammad are on bail.
