Thieves target Asda food bank
Thieves have stolen donations for a food bank from a Black Country supermarket.
Volunteers at Breaking Bread in Wednesbury had been collecting items at Asda in Great Bridge.
After taking away £400 worth of goods, they left the trolley with the remaining donations behind at the store.
But when they returned the next day they found it was empty.
Lin Walford, a volunteer at the food bank in Walsall Road, said:"Asda were very kind and did whatever they could to make us feel welcome and when we finished they allowed us to leave the trolley at the supermarket for other people to donate further.
"When I went back on Sunday morning the trolley was empty. It was clearly labelled with our logo so it was obvious what it was for.
"I do not know if somebody stole it purely because they could or because they were desperate, but if they were that desperate they could have come into the centre on Walsall Road in Wednesbury and we would have done whatever we could to help them."
Mrs Walford said the theft had been reported to police.
"We are never going to get the goods back which is a shame," Mrs Walford said.
"ASDA has been so very helpful but there is not much that can be done.
"Many volunteers gave up several hours of their Saturday morning and a lot of good was done and I don't think this should at all reflect on the people of Great Bridge who were so wonderful."
