Wolverhampton roadworks end ahead of schedule
A busy route into Wolverhampton has reopened after roadworks were finished four days ahead of schedule.
Work in Bridgnorth Road, Compton, finished at 7.30pm yesterday, after causing long delays for motorists.
The road was closed in both directions on Saturday for emergency works amid fears the carriageway could collapse.
Wolverhampton Council leader Councillor Roger Lawrence thanked motorists for their patience.
"There is never a good time to close a busy road and some disruption is unfortunately inevitable, but the good news is that things are now getting back to normal and the road has reopened much earlier due to workers pulling out all the stops.
"We did everything we could to minimise the disruption – including doing the work during half term when the roads are quieter and by putting in temporary lights at the junction of Henwood Road and Tettenhall Road to manage the inevitable increase in traffic using the diversion from Compton."
Tracey Woolcock, supervisor at the Oddfellows Hall Pub, on Bridgnorth Road welcomed the reopening.
She said: "The work was done quickly and we are very pleased that the road has reopened in time for Halloween weekend which is a busy time for us."
