New Lidl for Kingswinford is taking shape
A new supermarket which will create 40 jobs is taking shape in the Black Country.
The metal frame for the new store which will also have a 115-space car park has now gone up, giving passersby a glimpse of what it could look like where work is completed later this year.
Signs advertising the store saying it is coming soon have also been installed.
Work got under way in the summer after planning permission was granted by Dudley Council last year.
The firm submitted revised plans earlier this year which received further approval.
The amended application was to incorporate a larger area by 0.32 hectares taking in further vacant units around the trading estate.
Lidl spokesman Daniel Clarke said: "I can confirm the Kingswinford store is due to open in early December 2014."
The store is expected to create 15 full-time and 25 part-time jobs.
Some traders in nearby High Street were concerned about the scheme but councillors said they believed the town was 'big enough' to accommodate another supermarket and it would provide 'healthy competition'.
The plans have also been broadly welcomed by residents as hundreds visited an exhibition of the plans held by Lidl in January last year.
Leader of Dudley borough's Conservative group and Kingswinford Councillor Patrick Harley has previously praised the scheme, saying: "It will bring jobs and more trade into Kingswinford and that will be very welcome."
Last month Lidl announced plans for a revamped store in West Bromwich which will create jobs.
The company wants to knock down the existing supermarket in High Street and replace it with a new, modern building.
The proposals, submitted to Sandwell Council, say the new store will employ more than 10 additional workers.
Bosses say they are investing 'several million pounds' in the scheme.

They say by building a new supermarket they will have a more efficient store layout, more space between aisles and checkouts and be able to stock a higher amount of products.
The new store, which would be single-storey, would cover an area measuring around 23,034 sq ft.
