Teenager Stephen Sutton up for a national award

Inspirational teenager Stephen Sutton has been shortlisted for a national award.

The 19-year-old from Burntwood helped to raise millions of pounds for charity before his death earlier this year from cancer.

Stephen was nominated by members of the public for the lifetime achiever gong in the National Diversity Awards 2014.

Paul Sesay, founder of the National Diversity Awards, said today: "The quality and quantity of nominees this year has been exceptional. I would like to wish all shortlisted nominees the very best of luck.

"I would also like to add my congratulations to all the nominees and fingers crossed for Stephen in the Lifetime Achiever category."

Stephen is up against four other shortlisted people.

There was a total of 21,000 nominations for the National Diversity Awards this year.

The lifetime achiever award is given to someone who has

made significant, innovative and cumulatively outstanding contributions to enhancing the practice of equality and diversity.

The winners will be announced at the Hurlingham Club in London on September 26.
