Footballers in clash for £3,000-a-month Birmingham penthouse
If there's one thing people tend to associate the life of a modern day footballer with it is lavish expenditure.
Supermodel wives, expensive clothes and cars to match don't come cheap and players performing at the highest level won't bat an eyelid at spending the average persons yearly salary in one fell swoop.
No expense can be spared at the top level and of course living quarters are no exception.
Everybody needs a safe haven to return to after a hard days work and the Premier League's finest are no different.
But what happens when two people who are used to getting everything they want both want the same thing?
We may be about to find out in an early season clash between two unnamed players, one believed to be from West Bromwich Albion and the other thought to be from Aston Villa, said to be locked in a battle over who will get the keys to the most expensive two-bedroom flat in Birmingham.
The futuristic and stylish £3,000 penthouse apartment, located on the tenth floor of Queen's College Chambers in the Paradise Circus Block, has recently been made available for rent for the first time and it was only inevitable that it would attract the attention of some of the city's highest earners.
Ellie Cohen, director of letting agency Let's Live Birmingham, said: "This is the most expensive two-bedroom flat on the market in Birmingham at the moment - £3,000 a month is high for Birmingham.
"It is going to be targeted by high-rollers or for a company to let.
"It's the high end of the market and we already have interest from a couple of footballers who are looking to rent.
"The owners, a couple, are relocating overseas for business reasons."
Whoever wins the battle will be treated to a view facing towards the south of Birmingham, over New Street and down the A38 towards Birmingham University.
When they return from a days training or a big match, they can pour a drink at the built-in bar and prepare a meal in the spacious kitchen.
To add to the sense of luxurious comfort, the apartment comes fully air conditioned and contains all mod cons.
When it comes to having guests over, there is room to accommodate plenty on the huge sofa that wraps around the main room and there is plenty of space for the ultimate homely accessory, a giant television screen.
The building which hosts the prized penthouse is one of Birmingham city centre's most historic locations.
It began life as the Birmingham Medical School back in 1828, founded by surgeon William Sands Cox.
The Birmingham Medical School was the first institution in the city to award degrees.
In the mid-1970s, the original building was demolished apart from the Grade Two listed facade, which was incorporated into a new office and residential block later renamed Queen's College Chambers.
