Two dogs have been seized amid concerns the animals are an illegal breed.

West Midlands Police's Dangerous Dogs Unit seized the two Pit Bull type dogs from an address in Wynn Griffiths Drive, Tipton just before 8.30am yesterday

The action comes after concerns from the community that the dogs could be Pit Bull Terriers and that the owners were allowing the animals out in public without restraining them with leads.

Tipton Green Police took to Twitter to announce the discovery.

Pit Bull Terriers are one of four types of dogs currently banned in the UK and following the seizure of the two animals, experts from the dog unit will now assess the animals to determine their breed.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "If the dogs are found to be Pit Bulls their behaviour will be monitored and if they are deemed sociable and not a risk to the public, the owner can apply to the courts to keep them with a relevant exemption certificate."

Officers also visited an address in Church Street Tipton and checked four dogs but none of those animals were seized.
