The 79-year-old and her dance teacher Nico were in the top three in the public vote in the semi finals along with the swing quartet Jack Pack and 15-year-old songwriter Bailey McConnell.

Despite a shaky routine the judges voted three to one to put Paddy through after she injured her ribs while rehearsing in Spain, putting her place in last night's show at risk.

Afterwards she said: "It's quite extraordinary really."

Paddy goes through to next Saturdays final show with semi final winners Jack Pack.
