Little Margot Martini's family in charity donor drive

The family of little Margot Martini are holding a donor drive and charity event next week as they continue their quest to raise awareness of blood cell donors.

The toddler captured the hearts of millions as she battled a rare form of leukaemia but is now back home after a life-saving bone marrow transplant.

Her parents have vowed to continue to get people signed up to the blood cell donor list, and are holding a donor drive and charity fashion show on Tuesday at Tettenhall College.

Her father, Yasser, will be giving a speech, while her aunt, Charlotte Hathaway, who grew up with Margot's mother Vicki in Essington but now lives in Tettenhall, is helping to organise the event.

She said: "We are doing a fashion show to raise money for Delete Blood Cancer, and will also be doing a donor drive so people can be swabbed on the day."

Margot had the transplant in February after a donor was found, and returned home last month following the operation.

She was diagnosed with leukaemia aged just 14 months – sparking a worldwide hunt to find her perfect stem cell match. More than 50,000 people signed up to a campaign to see if they could be her perfect match – and now the family are hoping to continue the surge in blood cell donations.

Miss Hathaway said: "We are looking to keep raising awareness and carry on with the campaign to get people to sign up."

The event will see a fashion show featuring clothes from Diffusion, Coast and Urban Angel.

There will also be a raffle on the night with the top prize a five-night stay in Boston, complete with flights. Miss Hathaway said: "We have several shops involved and they have all supported us with clothes and prizes for the raffle.

"As well as the trip to Boston we have a signed Arsenal shirt to give away, tickets to Espom racecourse, which include a VIP meet and greet with Boyzone and vouchers to use at the shops that are taking part."

The doors will open at 7pm. Tickets cost £25 for adults and £10 for children. Email charlotte@teammargot.com
