PICTURED: Car smashes into six-year-old's bedroom in Stourport

The red Mitsubishi careered into the house in Ribbesford Drive, in Stourport-on-Seven, Wyre Forest, on Saturday at around 3pm.

Lee Anderton, 55, thought the six-year-old had been killed after the crash. But miraculously wife Jacqui, 50, and the child, who has complex needs, weren't in the bedroom at the time because they were watching television in their lounge.

Shocking images shows the huge gaping hole left in the side of their home by the speeding vehicle – with the remains of the child's bed and care aids visible in the wreckage.

Lee said: "I was upstairs at the time. I heard a smash and the whole house shook. I ran downstairs and opened the door.

"The room was thick with smoke and there was a red car in the room. I genuinely thought they had both died."

Jacqui said the pair would normally been in the downstairs bedroom but instead they were enjoying a lazy afternoon on the sofa.

She said: "I was in the in the front room.

"I head this enormous crash, the house shook so I knew something had happened, all the power went off.

“I've never heard a noise like it. I ran outside and saw a crowd of people staring at the house.

"I turned round and a red sports car had ploughed into it.

"The car had come off, come through our front garden and gone through the wall and the window.

“It completely wiped out a whole corner of the front bedroom.

"It is a room that's in use every day, we're always in and out of there.

"If I'd been in his room I wouldn't have survived."

West Mercia Police said the driver of the car, a man in his twenties, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital along with a female passenger, also in her twenties.

Firefighters from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service had to rescue the man from the car and the Midlands Air Ambulance was also rushed to the scene.

Police said no one has been arrested at this stage.
