Kidderminster man to brave the shave for Kemp Hospice
A photographer is braving the shave during the coronavirus lockdown in aid of a Wyre Forest-based hospice.
Cameron Smart, from Kidderminster, has described his hair as his "biggest prized possession".
But with salons shut, the 20-year-old has decided to cut it all off in the hope of raising up to £250 for Kemp Hospice, also based in Kidderminster.
Cameron's mother, Freddi, will do the honours and will stream the hair shave live on her Facebook page at 12pm on Friday, June 12.
Cameron said: "My hair is getting longer and the weather is getting hotter so I need to get it cut. It is my biggest prized possession. It is part of my identity.
“But when I don’t have a haircut and it gets all long and thick, I start to feel like I am not myself.
“As I need a haircut and Kemp needs money to do what they need to do, I thought what better thing to do than raise money for them with a head shave.
“This means a lot to me and I just want to give something back to them.”
Cameron said Kemp Hospice provided support for his late grandmother, Alane Harvey, and his family after she was diagnosed with cancer last year.
He added: "Kemp really helped us after my nan passed away. The support from everyone at Kemp has been amazing.
“My mum is a singer and has performed live at the hospice in Kidderminster in the past. She has also written a song in aid of Kemp, called ‘It’s Your Time Now’, and is available on iTunes, Spotify and more. I am an events photographer and have done some work for KEMPfest as well.
“I can’t say thank you enough.
“I am going to be with hair one day and bald the next. But as long as I am healthy and can raise money and awareness for Kemp then I am more than happy to do it.”
Charlie Homer, head of fundraising and communications at Kemp Hospice, said: ‘Cam and his mum, Freddi, are great supporters of the hospice and, as ever, they are always prepared to jump in and help raise funds for our free specialist care.
“We are incredibly thankful for their dedication and efforts.”
